COVID-19: Clean Your Devices, Not Just Your Hands

Within hospitals, warehouses, stores, and routes etc., it’s more than likely that there will be hardware that is used by multiple workers, across a wide range of departments. So, how do you ensure that you can avoid the transmission of the COVID-19 through a printer, scanner and mobile computer?

The answer? Simply clean and disinfect your devices.

  • Zebra Healthcare Models – Follow detailed guidelines on how to disinfect Zebra Healthcare Scanners, Printers and Mobile Computers.
  • Non-Healthcare Models – in the user guide of your product turn to the cleaning instructions for the disinfectant process.
  • Read “Best Practices for Infection Prevention” by Infection Control Expert, Darrel Hicks.
  • Follow Government protocol – wash your hands frequently.

When designing their products, Zebra Technologies ensured that cleaning the device was a key requirement, especially for those who are used by multiple workers. They also ensured that our customers would have clear guidance on how they can most effectively clean and disinfect their device once it was installed in the field. Whilst it is easy to implement a cleaning protocol within the workplace, it’s important to consider that Zebra’s cleaning guidance on how to clean a device, is different for each device, particularly in terms of the industry you’re in.

For non-healthcare models, in the user guide of your product, turn to the cleaning instructions section to discover the best cleaning methods, and how to thoroughly disinfect the casing, buttons and screen. The user guide will also be able to confirm which cleaning agents are safe to use, and those that should never be used with the specific device. Should you have any difficulty finding your user guide, or anything specific questions regarding the disinfecting process, you can always contact us.

Zebra also provide “Best Practices for Infection Prevention” written by Darrel Hicks, an expert in infection control. Even though this paper was written for the healthcare industry, the recommendations within it are eligible for companies in all industries when it comes to taking additional precautions to protect the health of staff and customers.

We highly recommend that you legislate a device cleaning policy for your company as soon as possible using the specific product guidelines. This will help to ensure that employees are properly disinfecting mobile devices, scanners, printers, and more on a routine basis. It will also help to re-assure your employees that you are doing everything you can to prevent shared technology tools from becoming a potential source of virus transmission.

As well as this, we also recommend you follow Government protocol, and frequently wash your hands, as clean hands + clean devices = an even more effective infection control strategy.

As COVID-19 guidelines and protocols change, this article will be updated.
